Day 6: Jaipur | Country Elephant Ride Explore the Amber Fort, with its Mughal-style facade, and later, ride an elephant through the countryside. Visit Jantar Mantar and view the nearby Palace of the Winds. Rambagh Palace | Meals: B L
Day 7: Jaipur/Agra | Discovering the Ghost City Travel to Fatehpur Sikri, a fairy-tale ghost city of delicately carved red sandstone, and then continue to Agra and your luxury hotel, catching a first glimpse of the Taj Mahal from your room. The Oberoi Amarvilas | Meals: B L
Day 8: Agra | Visions of the Taj Mahal Today, visit two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Agra Fort and the immortal Taj Mahal. Flawless in its proportions and breathtaking in its beauty, the Taj Mahal is a peerless treasure. Pay your first visit when the rising sun lends it a warm pink tint. Day 9: Jhansi/Panna National Park | Abandoned Palace Depart Agra via an early morning express train to Jhansi, and then continue overland to Orchha, visiting its abandoned, 17th-century palace. After lunch, continue to Panna National Park and your remote wilderness lodge. Pashan Garh | Meals: B L
Day 10: Khajuraho | Exotic Temples and Elusive Tigers Behold the 85 sandstone Hindu and Jain temples of Khajuraho, upon which life in all its aspects joy, love, divinity, war is depicted in exquisite, carved-stone detail. Day 12: Varanasi | Legacies of Gandhi and Buddha Visit Banaras Hindu University, the 18th-century Durga Temple and Bharat Mata Temple, dedicated by Mahatma Gandhi to Mother India. Day 13: Varanasi/Delhi | Life On the Ghats Rise early for a private sunrise cruise on the Ganges and view the activity along the ghats, stone steps leading down to the river where the locals and pilgrims alike cleanse themselves, literally and spiritually.
