The Experience
WaterColor Inn and Resort
WaterColor Inn and Resort is located in the Florida Panhandle on the Gulf of Mexico. Situated between the resort towns of Destin and Seaside, between the larger cities of Pensacola and Panama City. Families have been coming to these beaches for generations. For many of them, the visits grew longer and longer with each passing year, until these Southern shores became their home-away-from-home. They built simple beach cottages that took advantage of the breezes and offered broad views of the gulf. Here, they created a unique Southern coastal lifestyle. It seems fitting that WaterColor Inn pays homage to that custom while forging its own identity. Designed by David Rockwell, the Inn combines the warmth and hospitality associated with traditional Southern grand hotels, the intimacy of bed-and-breakfast inns and the charm of classic beach houses.
With the function and charm of a personal cabana, all 60 rooms face the beach, whether you opt for a rotunda room, Gulf view or dune view. Every room comes with a king-size bed and a queen sofa sleeper. Central to each room’s original design are large walk-in showers with inset windows that overlook the beach. Thoughtful touches include an entertainment armoire, a cherry mini-bar, two-linespeakerphones with voice mail and data ports, a CD/DVD player, high-speed Internet access, cable television, a business desk, ceiling fans, electronic safes and a coffeemaker.
One of the more basic but most enjoyable aspects of life is eating. WaterColor offers everything from a corner grocer to a corner table in the inventive Fish Out of Water restaurant. Whatever you’re hungry for, you can find it in the restaurants and eateries around WaterColor.
WaterColor offers much more than the pleasures of the beach, and WaterColor Inn guests enjoy access to additional diversions situated throughout the 499-acre community. Canoes, kayaks and sailboats are available from the BoatHouse, directly on the banks of Western Lake. Crooked Creek Fishing Charters offers instruction and charters. The Tennis Center features a stadium court surrounded by a grass-stepped terrace for the gallery, and five har-tru hydrogrid clay courts, including three that are lit for night play, and a pro shop with tennis gear. Camp Creek Golf Club, a Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole course, is six miles east of the Inn on Scenic Highway 30A.
The BeachClub is an oasis from too much sun and a good place to enjoy good food and drinks. For our guests’ convenience, we have fully-equipped changing rooms with showers and lockers and a pool service area that offers sun screen products, sunglasses, hats and water toys. The resort also features a fitness center and a library.
