The Experience
Taj Cape Town is a luxury hotel set in the vibrant heart of Cape Town, offering guests a combination of refined Indian hospitality and an authentic Cape Town experience.
Occupying two historic buildings, it retains the architecture and many meticulously restored interior features of the original South African Reserve Bank and the old BoE building – formerly the Temple Chambers, built in 1890. Seventeen new storeys house suites, guestrooms and residences with magnificent views of the Mother City and the iconic Table Mountain.
Taj’s doors open to a precinct that includes the national and provincial parliaments, Government Avenue leading through the 350-year-old Company Gardens from St George’s Cathedral, the cosmopolitan crafts of St George’s Mall and Greenmarket Square and a diversity of culture, art, entertainment and cuisine.
With a focus on taking guests on a journey through different cultivars from around India, the Bombay Brasserie Spring Chilli Festival at Taj Cape Town is set to provide a unique taste experience for diners this September. Bombay Brasserie will be offering a 4 course Vegetarian and Non vegetarian tasting menu as well as an a la carte menu with food items all carefully crafted to include a number of rare and hard to find types of chillis imported from India.
Guests can expect such unique taste sensations as: Pink pepper rasam soup, a tempered lentil and tomato broth with a hint of pink peppercorns; baby potatoes tossed with sesame and pounded Teja chillis; plump coastal prawns spiced with yellow chilli powder and even yellow lentils cooked with hung curd and tempered with Patti chillis to name a few. A variety of breads from Chilli Olive Naan and Masala Parantha to Roghani Kulcha and Chilli Roti are also provided. Desserts of home churned Indian ice-cream with a hint of red chilli as well as fennel and black pepper scented pancakes rounds out the taste experience.
Alongside each course, Twankey Bars’ finest Craft beers have been specially paired with these hot and spicy meals and will be served to accompany the chilli dishes. South Africa’s foremost Winemakers and Chefs de Cuisine are set to feature at the prestigious Big Bottle Festival, at Taj Cape Town.
The Big Bottle Festival is one of South Africa’s most prestigious annual wine tasting and gourmet food festivals, now celebrating its fourth year with South Africa’s finest big bottle format masterpieces. Forty-five of the finest wine producers and importers, such as Mullineaux Wines, Klein Constantia, Chamonix, Paul Cluver, Delaire Graff Estate and Drappier Champagne will be pouring wine from ‘big bottles’ during a weekend long festival. Few wineries and estates bottle wines in large bottle format as these are usually reserved only for special and limited releases to showcase outstanding vintages. These magnificent bottles are synonymous with celebration, extravagance, enjoyment and they invoke a feeling of delightful, social decadence.
South Africa’s top culinary names, such as Rudi Liebenberg from the Mount Nelson, Gregory Czarnecki from Waterkloof Restaurant, Brad Ball from Steenberg’s Bistro 1682, Christian Harbeck from Raith Gourmet and our very own Executive Chef Shyam Longani will also be pairing their specialty cuisine with that of specific wines and blends as part of the 2014 ‘WALK ABOUT TASTING’.
During the past four years wine connoisseurs and event attendees, along with various wine estates and leading commercial brands, have enjoyed perhaps one of the finest wine events in Southern Africa. The festival attracted approximately 1200 connoisseurs and consumers during 2013 alone and is now perfectly positioned to be taken to an international level.
The super-sized annual wine tasting extravaganza will take place on the weekend of the 29th and 30th of August 2014 at The Reserve at Taj Cape Town
